Desserts

The best part of any meal for Nancy’s Dad was dessert.  He was married to her Mom for nearly 75 years for a number of reasons, but certainly one of them was because she excelled at making pies, cookies, and all things sweet.  She would have enjoyed these recipes – and he would have adored eating them!

MAPLE ROASTED BANANAS WITH CINNAMON WHIPPED CREAM

Our kids would always finish their dinner if they knew that Joe would make his version of bananas foster for dessert.  This recipe is so similar – maple syrup swapped for brown sugar and whipped cream for vanilla ice cream.  Can’t be beat!

MAPLE WALNUT BROWNIES WITH MAPLE GLAze

Here’s a delicious alternative to traditional blond brownies.  That distinctive maple syrup flavor with maple glaze to boot offers a rich and unique melding of flavors.  Bet you can’t eat just one?!

HONEY BUTTER TARTS

Each year our Canadian vacation includes multiple visits to Henrietta’s Pine Bakery in Dwight, Ontario, where you can find the best butter tarts ever. A dessert staple of Ontario, butter tarts are gooey, sweet, and delicious.  You may never know if these butter tarts are as good as the ones at Henrietta’s, but you can be sure that they come darn close.

Salted Honey Pie

Pies are special (and always appreciated) in our household. Unlike seasonal fruit pies, this one is delicious any time of year.  Your family will love the custard base and the sweetness of honey – with a sprinkling of sea salt to add to the goodness.
